Georgia

This is one of the hardest posts I’ve had to write as a rescuer.

Georgia is a 5-year-old Great Dane (born 2/22/21) who is incredibly loving, loyal, and deeply bonded to her person. In the home, she is affectionate, funny, and truly a good dog.

But she is also a dog that requires a very specific lifestyle and it’s my responsibility to be honest about that so she can finally land in the right home.

Georgia cannot live with other dogs or cats.

And more importantly—she cannot safely be around them.

She is reactive, and when she sees another dog, she will charge. Even on a tie-out, even for a second. Fostering her in a neighborhood setting has made that very clear, especially when loose dogs are a reality. On top of that, managing her safely in a home where I also have multiple dogs of my own adds another layer of constant separation and structure that isn’t sustainable long-term for her or for me. Her day-to-day life requires constant awareness and control

What Georgia needs:

• A single-pet home only (no exceptions)

• A country home or extremely controlled environment

• Or a secure 6’ privacy fence (no chain link/wire exposure to other dogs)

• An experienced, confident owner who understands reactivity and structure

Because when she’s not in those high-stress situations?

She is incredible.

She’s professionally trained and knows commands like sit, stay, wait, down, place, leave it, and shake. She’s house trained, potty trained, and well-mannered in the home.

She loves car rides, long walks (in the right setting), and gets the occasional zoomies where she forgets she’s a Great Dane. She will absolutely demand your attention—reading, relaxing, watching TV… she assumes you’re available to pet her at all times. And she will try to be your lap dog.

She can be wary of strangers at first (especially men), but her bark is usually more intimidating than her intentions. With proper introductions and time, she settles in well. She has been around kids, but needs slow introductions—especially with boys. Once comfortable, she wants to be their best friend.

She has been around horses and cows and does not seem to mind them.

She is e-collar and prong collar trained, spayed, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped.

As a rescue, we don’t take rehoming decisions lightly.

Georgia has been waiting for over a year, and while she has done well in foster, it’s clear she needs a more controlled environment to truly thrive—not one where she is constantly exposed to triggers.

So we are being extremely intentional about her placement.

This will not be a first-come, first-served adoption. We will wait as long as it takes to find the right home.

Because Georgia isn’t a bad dog, she just needs the right setup to be a great one.

If you’ve read this and feel like you understand her and can provide that environment, please reach out.
